Freddy Sanchez will be under contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates through the 2010 season pending a physical Tuesday morning. Financial terms are speculated at this point but the deal is a two year contract with a third year option that can be guaranteed based on Sanchez's performance over the first two years of the contract. The triggers are believed to be very attainable.
Sanchez was to become a free agent after the 2009 season, this contract will go one year into his free agent years.
Good for Freddy. I don't believe he will finish the contract with the Pirates, he will be traded long before the contract ends. Hopefully he won't be traded until he locks in the third season of the deal, that would keep his value high and the Pirates might get some good talent in return for him.
