The 25-year-old righthander is making his seventh start of the 2007 season this afternoon...He has won two of his last three decisions
Ian pitched a season-low 5.0 innings while suffering a 7-1 loss to the Cubs at PNC Park last Wednesday...He was trailing 2-1 before walking four batters, hitting another and throwing a wild pitch while giving up two more runs in the 5th inning.
Snell has tossed at least 6.0 innings in all but one start this season and at least 7.0 frames four times in his first six outings...He has been charged with two earned runs or less in five of his first six assignments.
Snell has surrendered just two home runs in this season...The shot by Alfonso Soriano in the 3rd inning last Wednesday was the first homer he allowed since his first start in Houston on April 3 when Jason Lane took him deep in the 5th inning.
Since the beginning of the 2006 season, Ian has pitched at least 7.0 innings on 13 occasions (the Pirates have posted a record of 10-3 in those games).
Snell struck out 11 Houston batters in his first start of the season on 4/3; the most whiffs by a Bucco pitcher since Kip Wells fanned 12 Philadelphia batters on 7/5/05. ...The club record for most K’s in a game by a righthander is 14, set by Bob Moose on 9/16/69 vs. Philadelphia and matched by Jose DeLeon on 4/16/85 vs. New York.
