The 29-year-old righthander is making his fifth start of the 2007 season this afternoon.
Tony received a no-decision in Pittsburgh’s 8-6 loss to the Cubs at PNC Park last Tuesday (the game was suspended and completed on Wednesday)...He left the game after 6.0 innings of work with a 5-2 lead, but the Cubs scored four times in the 7th inning before play was stopped due to rain.
In his last two starts (both no-decisions), Armas has been charged with a total of three runs in 11.0 innings of work (2.45 ERA)...His first start came in the team’s fifth game and then he waited 13 days to make his next start...He went 0-2 with an 18.90 ERA in his first two assignments, allowing 14 runs in 6.2 innings.
Tony’s first appearance in a Pittsburgh uniform came in 30-degree weather on April 7 at Cincinnati...He was spotted a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, but surrendered three in the bottom of the frame and also lost a 5-4 lead in the 4th while losing a 7-5 decision to Aaron Harang.
TROUBLE IN THE FIRST:
Armas has allowed at least one run in the first inning in all four of his starts...He gave up one to the Cubs on 5/1, one to the Astros in 4/26, two to the Dodgers on 4/20 and three to the Reds in his first start of the year on 4/7.
Armas has gone five starts since picking up his last victory, which came on September 24, 2006 against the Mets at Shea Stadium.

The 25-year-old righthander will be making his seventh start of the season when he takes the mound in Chicago Tuesday night...His last start was a 7-1 loss to the Cubs at PNC Park last Wednesday (5.0ip/4h/4r/4er/4bb/3so)...Has been charged with two earned runs or less in five of his first six starts...Tossed 7.0 shutout innings in a 3-1 win vs. Cincinnati at PNC Park on 4/27 and whiffed a career-high 11 batters in a no-decision (6.0ip/2r) in 2007 debut on 4/3 in Houston...Has surrendered just two home runs his first six starts (39.0ip).
1-3 with a 6.37 ERA (29.2ip/21er) in six career appearances (four starts)...He picked up his lone win on 8/28/06 after winning an 11-6 decision (5.2ip/5er) over Angel Guzman at PNC Park...Has gone 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA (9.0ip/5er) in two career games at Wrigley Field.
Beginning May 1st at PNC Park, fans will be able to vote for the players for this year's All-Star Game, which is scheduled to be played at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Tuesday, July 10...A total of eight Pirates are on this year's ballot (Jason Bay, Freddy Sanchez, Jack Wilson, Adam LaRoche, Jose Bautista, Chris Duffy, Xavier Nady and Ronny Paulino)...Voting at PNC Park will continue through June 17...Twenty-one million ballots will be distributed at the 30 Major League ballparks and an additional 1.7 million ballots will be distributed to 95 Minor League Baseball Clubs that are in-season during the balloting period.
