LHP Ted Lilly (2-2, 2.82):
About Lilly:
Ted, 31, joined the Cubs after signing a four-year deal with the club December 15, 2006 … originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 1996 Draft, he’s in his ninth Major League season … has pitched for Montreal (1999), the Yankees (2000-2002), Oakland (2002-2003) and Toronto (2004-2006).

Has tossed 6.0 or more innings in 89 career starts, going 51-21 with a 2.57 ERA (170 ER/595.0 IP) while limiting hitters to a .204 batting average in those outings.
Has won 10 or more games in each of the past four seasons.
Graduated from Yosemite High School … attended Fresno City College in California.

Last Time Out:
Got the start May 1 at Pittsburgh, and did not receive a decision in the Cubs’ 8-6 win that was completed on May 2 after the game was suspended in the seventh inning.

Went 5.1 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 … left the game down, 5-2.

2007 Season:
Lilly has held hitters a .216 batting average (30-for-139) this season while walking 6 and striking out 38 … produced quality starts in his first 5 outings this season making him the first pitcher to toss quality starts in his first 5 outings as a Cub since Mike Harkey did it six straight times in 1988-89 … finished April 2-2 with a 2.18 ERA (8 ER/33.0 IP) in 5 starts.

Spun a gem in his Cubs debut, earning the victory in a 4-1 Cubs win April 4 in Cincinnati.
Tossed 4.0 no-hit innings and eventually allowed just 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 9.

Collected his first career RBI with a fielder’s choice bunt in the sixth inning.

Did not receive a decision in the Cubs’ home opener, a 5-3 loss to Houston, April 9 … tossed 6.0-plus innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.
Allowed a first inning run on back-to-back doubles to start the game, then retired the next 10 batters he faced.

Allowed just 1 run on 2 hits in 6.0 innings of work, but was the tough luck loser in the Cubs’ 1-0 loss vs. Cincinnati April 15 … struck out 10, marking his ninth career double-digit strikeout game.
Surrendered a fourth inning leadoff walk that came around to score on a Jeff Conine single to left.
Was the tough luck loser April 20 vs. St. Louis, despite allowing just 2 runs in 7.0 innings of work … allowed 2 walks and 4 hits while striking out 6 in the Cubs’ 2-1 loss.
His 2 runs surrendered came on a one-out, seventh inning Jim Edmonds walk that was followed by a Preston Wilson 2-run homer.

Earned his second win of the season April 25 vs. Milwaukee, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and no walks while striking out 3 in 7.0 innings of work.

Allowed just 4 runners to reach scoring position.

His infield single in the third inning was his first hit since September 19, 1999, against Atlanta while with Montreal.

2006 Season:
Ted went 15-13 with a 4.31 ERA (87 ER/181.2 IP) in a career-high tying 32 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays … the 15 victories also marked a career-best for the left-hander.

Led all Toronto pitchers with 160 strikeouts, 28 home runs allowed and 81 walks … his 18 quality starts ranked second on the club.

Posted a 4-2 record with a 2.45 ERA in six September starts.

Opponents batted .254 (179-for-706) off Lilly, with lefties producing a .202 average (25-for-124).
On April 13 at Boston, he became the first visiting pitcher in five seasons to record 10 or more strikeouts with no walks at Fenway Park.

Earned the win that day, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing just one earned run on six hits with 10 strikeouts.

Notched his 700th career strikeout by punching out Vance Wilson in the seventh inning June 10 vs. Detroit.

Recorded his 50th career win June 15 vs. Baltimore.
