About Marquis
Jason, who will pitch in his 200th career game today, posted 42 victories from 2004-2006 … the 42 wins were more than Barry Zito (41), Jason Schmidt (41) and Pedro Martinez (40) boasted in that same span.

Marquis spent the previous three seasons with division rival St. Louis after pitching for the Braves from 2000-2003.
As a starter, has compiled a 57-53 record with a 4.41 ERA (419 ER/855.1 IP) in 142 career outings.
Has gone 46-26 with a 2.96 ERA (208 ER/632.1 IP) in 92 starts in which he tossed 6.0 or more innings … has an 11-27 mark with an 8.52 ERA (211 ER/223.0 IP) in 50 starts that lasted less than 6.0 innings.
Captured the 2005 NL Silver Slugger Award for pitchers … was the first Cardinals pitcher to win a Silver Slugger since Bob Forsch in 1987.
Has made nine postseason appearances, including two outings (one start) in the 2004 World Series as a member of the NL Champion St. Louis Cardinals.

Since the start of the 2004 season, Marquis is 31-17 prior to the All-Star break … the 31 wins in that span are tied for the most among NL pitchers (with Florida’s Dontrelle Willis).

2007 Season
Marquis has held the opponent to a .204 batting average (23-for-113), allowing just 1 home run in 30.2 innings of work … has gone at least 6.0 innings in 4 of 5 starts this season.

Received a no decision in his Cubs debut, April 5 in Cincinnati despite allowing just 1 run in 6.0 innings of work … allowed 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1 in the Cubs’ 5-2 loss.

Left the game with a 2-1 lead.
Tagged with the 4-2 loss, April 10 vs. Houston … allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3 in 5.0 innings of work.
Allowed all 4 hits in the Astros’ 3-run first inning … surrendered 3 walks and an unearned run in the fifth.
Earned his first win as a Cub in his third start of the season in a 12-4 win vs. San Diego April 16 … tossed 6.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5.

2006 Season
Jason set a career high with 33 starts en route to a 14-16 record and 6.02 ERA (130 ER/194.1 IP) for the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals.

Was 11-6 with a 5.55 ERA (72 ER/116.2 IP) in 18 starts prior to the All-Star break, but just 3-10 with a 6.72 ERA (58 ER/77.2 IP) in 15 starts after the break.
Opposing teams batted just .196 (10-for-51) in the first inning of his 14 wins and .414 (29-for-70) in the opening inning of his 16 defeats.
Rebounded from a four-game losing streak by going unbeaten in seven straight starts from May 13-June 16, going 6-0 with a 3.31 ERA (18 ER/49.0 IP) in that span.

Extended his winning streak to a season-high six games with a victory June 16 vs. Colorado … that followed a no decision June 10 at Milwaukee.
Twice allowed 12 or more earned runs in a game … gave up 12 earned runs July 18 vs. Atlanta nearly a month after allowing a career-high 13 earned runs June 21 at the White Sox.
He logged a 5.13 ERA (105 ER/184.1 IP) in his 31 other outings, nearly a full run lower than his season-ending 6.02 ERA.
