TODAYS STARTER:
IAN SNELL:
The 25-year-old righthander is making his fifth start of the 2007 season this evening.
LAST START:
Ian allowed two runs in 7.0 innings and was in line for the win but had a no-decision in Pittsburgh’s 7-3, 10-inning loss Saturday at Dodger Stadium...The Pirates took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning before the Dodgers tied the score and forced extra innings...Russell Martin ended the contest with a walkoff grand slam of Shawn Chacon.
FIRST WIN IN 2007:
Ian allowed one run over 7.0 innings of work and won a 3-2 decision against St. Louis’ Anthony Reyes on April 16 at Busch Stadium...The Pirates scored all three of their runs in the first inning...The Cards loaded the bases in the ninth before Salomon Torres got Albert Pujols to pop out to third base to end the game.
IN SPRING TRAINING:
Snell went 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA (21.0ip/7er) in six Grapefruit League outings (four starts)...He led the club in wins and all National League Grapefruit League pitchers in strikeouts (24).
2007 SEASON:
Ian has worked 7.0 innings in three of his four starts this season...He allowed just two runs in 6.0 innings of work in his 2007 debut on April 3 in Houston but had a no-decision in Pittsburgh’s 3-2 win...He also allowed one run over 7.0 innings in Pittsburgh’s Home Opener vs. St. Louis on 4/9 but lost a 3-0 decision to Braden Looper.
11 K’s:
Snell struck out 11 Houston batters in his first start of the season on 4/3; the most whiffs by a Bucco pitcher since Kip Wells fanned 12 Philadelphia batters on 7/5/05. ...The club record for most K’s in a game by a righthander is 14, set by Bob Moose on 9/16/69 vs. Philadelphia and matched by Jose DeLeon on 4/16/85 vs. New York.
SNELL vs. CINCINNATI:
2006/CAREER:
1-1 with a 4.50 ERA (18.0ip/9er) in three starts...He received a no-decision in Pittsburgh’s 6-5 loss @Great American Ball Park on 4/6 (5.0ip/10h/4r/4er/3bb/5so), surrendering one run in the 1st inning and two in the 2nd before leaving the game trailing 4-3...The Bucs tied the game in the 8th before losing it in the bottom of the frame...He also allowed one run in 7.0 innings of work and won a 7-3 decision against Chris Michalak at GABP on 8/18 and lost a 9-1 decision (6.0ip/4er) against Kyle Lohse on 9/8 at GABP.

TOMORROW'S STARTER:
TOM GORZELANNY:
The 24-year-old lefthander will be making his fifth start of the season tomorrow night...He improved to 3-0 after winning a 7-5 decision (6.0ip/3r/3er) over Brett Tomko last Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium...Came two outs away from a complete game while winning his start on 4/17 in St. Louis...Tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in his start on 4/10 and left with a 2-0 lead, but received a no-decision in Pittsburgh’s 3-2, 12-inning loss to the Cardinals at PNC Park (4h/0bb/5so)...Was victorious in his first start; a 5-4 decision over Woody Williams in Houston on 4/4 (5.0ip/3r/2er)...Was named the club’s Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year in 2006 after going 6-5 with a 2.35 ERA in 16 starts with Indy.
vs. CINCINNATI:
Will be making his first career appearance against the Reds.
