Post-Game Notes

The good news is the game is over and no mention of frost bite on the injury list.

The bad news was plentiful in a 6-1 Pirates loss to the Reds. The only way to describe the play of the Pirates is the exact opposite of how they played in Houston. Poor defense, struggling starter and no bats lead to the defeat.

Where the Pirates batters feared making contact due to the cold temperatures, the Cincinnati sluggers thrived in the conditions tallying 2 home runs off of Paul Maholm. Maholm allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings.

One continued bright spot is the excellent play by Jose Bautista both offensively and defensively. Bautista made a stellar diving grab and one hop throw to second to record the out to end the inning. He also doubled, recording the Pirates only extra base hit.

Saturdays game has been moved up to a 1:05 start due to the cold temperatures expected Saturday night.
